SNFCC: A Brand New Jewel in Athens

Built on the site of the abandoned parking lot of the 2004 Olympics, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is Athens’ newest venue. Designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, the impressive cultural center compliments the National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Greek National Opera (GNO), and is over 2.3M square feet (210,000 m²).

The park, with its lush garden landscape, featuring a wide range of trees, plants, water fountains, paths, playgrounds and open spaces, turns every visit into a unique experience. The curving landscaped pathways of the Mediterranean Garden, gently wind their way up to a summit 105 feet high (32 m).

Beneath the park is the building that houses the immense Library and the 1,400 seat Opera. This green roof structured hill is one of the largest in Europe, and the summit offers spectacular 360-degree views of the city.

But that is not all…..Another prize awaits the visitors of the Park’s summit: the 9700 sq ft (900m2) glass-walled Lighthouse, a space for those seeking a quiet area to read, relax or just to appreciate the view. Located less than 3 miles (4.5 km) south of the city center of Athens, on the edge of Faliro Bay, this is a venue with excellent facilities for multiple types of programs ranging from exhibitions to cocktail events.
